Monday, November 5, 2018 – Gainesville, FL – Earlier this year the Member Community Outreach Committee of Gainesville-Alachua County Association of REALTORS (GACAR) hosted a bowling fundraiser to benefit the Arbor House. The fundraising goal was to raise enough funds to replace all carpet with easy to clean, sustainable flooring in all Arbor House properties.
“The goal of new floors was daunting, but this is such a worthy cause,” said GACAR President Susan McQuillan. Arbor House helps local mothers and children transition out of homelessness. This is an issue near and dear to the REALTOR family heart. In 2017 63% of all REALTORS were female.
Arbor House has several properties. The "family house" has 8 bedrooms and a staircase with a landing; all of which needed new flooring. This facility usually serves an average of 30 people as there are typically 2-4 people per room, such as a mother with 1-3 children. As you can see in these photos below, the carpet is stained and unsanitary... especially for babies or young children to be crawling and sleeping on.
The invincible vinyl plank floors have now been installed! Amazing how these sustainable materials mimic real reclaimed wood planks. Everyone involved is thrilled with the result. Arbor house employees and volunteers gushed over the new look, durability, and ease to clean. GACAR volunteers commented on how they could not just see the difference, but feel the difference the new floors provided. President McQuillan said, “Arbor house is a tremendous benefit and service to our community which is why we are so proud assisting to improve their facilities.”
