November 26, 2018 – Gainesville, FL –Gainesville-Alachua County Association of REALTORS (GACAR) has concluded the annual food drive with another successful year.  The donations benefited Bread of the Mighty Food Bank. Bread of the Mighty Food Bank has been serving our community for 30 years; a private non-profit organization that collects, sorts, stores, and distributes food across 5 different counties. Did you know 1 in 5 among the general population is food insecure? They are hungry! Bread of the Mighty provides services to address food insecurity in North Central Florida; 22.9% of those affected are children.

During the food drive Bread of the Mighty Food Bank President and CEO, Marcia Conwell, spoke at a GACAR general membership meeting. Conwell’s heartfelt speech showcased the community’s needs and got GACAR members to open their wallets to give spur of the moment donations. In addition to the funds raised, GACAR collected food for over a month. The general membership meeting was one of many locations GACAR collected food.

GACAR’s 2018 food drive was able to contribute 576 pounds of food and $1,062. This contribution totals 11,100 meals for our local community.
