Continue Reducing Landlord Permit Fees to ONLY Cover Costs
Dear GACAR Members,
The City Commission is currently in budget discussions and they need to hear from you to continue to lower the Landlord Permit Fee. GACAR believes the landlord permit fee should be set to only cover the cost. We were successful last year with a similar Call for Action that resulted in $29 reduction in the landlord permit fee. Going from $204.75 to $175.75. We have drafted a letter to make it very easy and with a couple of clicks you can get involved! Please send this Call to Action and let it be known that GACAR is the voice of Real Estate in Alachua County*. The City Commissioners will be discussing the Landlord Permit fee at the Tuesday, May 30th City Commission Budget meeting (1:30 at Ironwood Golf Course). We hope to see you and the tenants you know at that meeting.
Your Property Management Council and Political Involvement Committee have been working hard to improve the ordinance and lower the landlord permit fee. In 2015 a fee study was conducted by an outside consultant that showed the total cost per landlord permit was ONLY $112.71. The fee is currently set at 148% of cost or generating a profit of $249,191. The landlord permit fee went from $84 in 2006-2007 to $177 in 2007-2008 and the city has been overcharging ever since. 9 years of overcharging and using the landlord permit fee as a revenue generator needs to end.
